I learned Sufi heart-dance from a Sufi dervish, but it is used in other traditions, and several versions are known in Western esotericism. It’s basically a paired love meditation that powerfully opens the heart center and has a stress-relieving effect, and is sometimes a little crying-laughing at who we are in. It does not involve any particular movement, a kind of inner experience.
The practice takes place in pairs who are facing each other. Usually it requires leaving the comfort zone from participants - they have to look into each other’s eyes during the exercise - but nothing too intimate or uncomfortable happens. The couples change every 5 minutes in a 40 minutes to 1 hour practice. Thus, at one time everyone can experience its effect with 8-10 people.
